Fernanda

Fernanda is a truly remarkable 4-year-old girl whose gentle nature shines brighter than the hardships she has endured. Despite surviving years of neglect and abandonment, and losing an eye along the way, she remains one of the sweetest, most forgiving dogs imaginable. Calm, affectionate, and wonderfully easy-going, Fernanda adores other dogs, walks beautifully on a lead, and naturally stays close to her people. She has a peaceful, comforting presence that makes her the perfect companion for anyone seeking a loyal friend to share life's quieter moments. Whether enjoying countryside strolls, relaxing in the garden, meeting canine friends, or simply curling up at your feet, Fernanda asks for very little beyond kindness, security, and love. This majestic marshmallow of a dog has so much to give and deserves a future filled with the happiness she has waited so patiently to find.

A little bit about me in my own words:

Leesa says that whilst she is so moved by my story I must not take too long talking about what I can offer (which she tells me is a lot - an immeasurable amount in fact). If I’m too protracted she won’t get to post me & I believe the advert is the difference between life & just existing. I don’t want to ‘exist’ anymore. I really would love to live. I hope that will be at your feet curled up or sprawled on your bed- not to mention doggy play dates, walks on the beach &/or the local fields & ice cream in dog friendly cafes.

My name is the female equivalent of ‘Fernando’ meaning "brave journey" or "bold voyager" in Spanish /Portuguese. I don’t know if I would call myself that because I was resigned to my lot & had no choice but to endure it. We can’t take our own lives, run or hide away (not when someone has kept us captive) & our desire to continue seems to be part of our resolve. My courage Leesa states is our ability to love, to want love in return & putting our endless faith in humans. That we don’t carry the scars perpetually, shun the human race &/or react, is to our absolute credit. Here I am sitting at the fence line after less than a month curious & docile. I’m thought to be around 4yrs old & for those long years I was with my only friend - another dog- a karakachan at a cattle station. They chained us up & we were so sad. They didn’t care how much I could offer & they hurt me when I was defenceless & I couldn’t escape. Leesa said it’s the worse kind of cowardliness. They had no reason to be unkind to me other than being wicked. Despite it all I was loyal as dogs tend to be. I couldn’t do my job because I was neglected & I guarded nothing. But to the European way of thinking just my presence was meant to be a deterrent. They even put pinchers on heavy chains. Then when the cattle place closed they deserted me. I was abandoned like a screwed up crisp packet- just left to starve and die of thirst. I had no idea where I was and I only had one eye. What had they done to me to leave like this? Then I was picked up and taken to a shelter where their policy is to recycle us back into homelessness or give us to people who aren’t always good. I was so mistreated prior to this that when I was touched I cried. I was too passive to ever fight back. I’m just a lump of love & forgiveness. I don’t have a bad bone in my body and couldn’t hurt a worm even if I tried. The vet said to leesa that I’m such a good girl, fabulous in a pack (adore other dogs) & whilst I was timid at first I’m now flourishing. The gift of time and not a lot of it at that makes all the difference & kind people that on occasion visit as well as the rescuer. I didn’t need daily training. I just took to the lead and stroll along without pulling. I also return to your side naturally. What an easy maiden I am for any owner. I weighed only 20kg in March and already in May I’m up to 23kg. I’ve been neutered. I really am a laidback & restful companion looking to be the hearth of your home. I’m no trouble and suited to families with older children, couples or single living folk with or without resident pets. If you don’t have any dogs that’s ok just give me access to my own kind so I can interact. as I hate to miss that enjoyment. Please provide me with a home-I know I deserve one. I’m impossibly gentle & palpably sad to be unwanted. I just need a bit of buffin’-as leesa calls it when describing some unique features of the dogs she’s helping such as one eye:- ‘Scrubs up well adoptions- you don’t need a bank balance to love, you just need a heart. Dispel the myths & adopt a scrubs up well today.’ I’m a very stately in my aura & such as handsome dog. Oops I’ve gone on a-bit and the charity needs to get my appeal out there. Are you my special person?
