Otto
Meet Otto, the little dog who proves that eyesight isn't what helps you see what really matters. Blind but blissfully undeterred, this extraordinary chap navigates life with unwavering optimism, remarkable intelligence and a heart overflowing with affection. He doesn't simply enjoy human company, he craves it, flourishing with cuddles, conversation and the reassuring presence of his favourite people. Equal parts Staffie, Basset Hound and lovable little rugby ball, Otto is endlessly entertaining, wonderfully resilient and astonishingly adaptable. His disability has never defined him, nor has it diminished his spirit. Instead, it has revealed just how remarkable he truly is. If you're looking for a devoted companion who will fill your home with warmth, laughter and unconditional love, Otto is waiting to lead you there... one wagging tail and one trusting step at a time.

Otto in the welfares words:
Avid walker Otto has a spring in his step & space in his heart for a soulmate. Never has a dog wanted that more so than cuddle Munster Otto. He can charm his way into anyones heart. Otto was taken to a government shelter after being abandoned & his chances of any kind of life were zero. Deserted both blind & with a lump on his rear leg Otto continued to wag his tail and has been doing that ever since. Can anything deter this lovable fella from trying to share his life with people?
● His tail wags every time he hears a sound. He’s a gorgeous soul. There is something so pure about Ottos spirit
● He’s only got a best side. He’s always like this-he’s a remarkable little dog
● He’s so tolerant of other dogs & even if they react he takes it in his stride
● Otto is so personable that a group of puppies can climb all over him
● Otto is blind & can see past it - can you?
● Can you imagine waking up to ‘see’ the same thing as you saw before sleeping? Yet you’ll never find him in a bad mood
● He ‘looks’ straight into your eyes when you think he can’t see you
● On walks not once does he sway off the ‘beaten track’ or hesitate. Otto sees with his nose
● He’s immensely clever knowing exactly which gate was ‘home’ having walked through it only once
● When Ottos disability collides with his surroundings which on occasion it does he adopts an effortless ‘bounce back’ & ‘soldier on’ attitude. He’s like a person on a bouncy castle- as ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● though every bump is purposeful He navigates his daily routine including treat time & prepping for outings with ‘this way’, ‘wait’, ‘walkies’ & clapping commands Running up to you & flopping over between your legs for tummy rub action is a permanent feature. If he heads for the gap and misses tripping up on your leg instead he just rolls about. He loves his Fosbury flops I sing ‘Mull of Kintyre’ to him when we spoon (he’s little spoon) and he adores the sound, vibration & touch of your lips moving near his ear while you plant kisses on his forehead. When he leaps off his pallet like a show pony he’s distinctly smug There isn’t any slobber so even though he has staffie type jowls Sylvia isn’t an issue He knows where his bed, sleeping quarters & bowls are without any real guidance needed The dog flap leading to the outside balcony/stoned courtyard and the one to his indoor cabin were mastered before I could blink He often shadows your legs from behind as the sound, smell, vibration & touch are a great path to follow. Rarely does this cause me trip He isn’t afraid of different noises so far The vet described him after his overnight stay as a really loving & ‘good’ dog He travels well in a car Because he can’t see cats & other animals/ birds combined with his docile temperament he isn’t bothered by them He doesn’t like to be hemmed in so as with all our dogs we have a no cage policy. They don’t need one Otto is a positive natured boy & brings purpose and a sense of tranquility to his keeper He parades around on walks like he’s at crufts He’s quite quiet and also vocal if he ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● hears you. He sounds a-bit like a basset hound Otto isn’t boisterous or over energetic He hasn’t chewed except a tug at his foam bedding in boredom (can’t blame him for that) He prefers to toilet outside without training him Already coming to my voice so recall easy in secure areas Taking treats no problem Impressive appendage - just sayin’ :) tucked away all the time- gent He makes little baby whimpering sounds when I go in and hes being cuddled. He’s so sad without people and needs more than the charity and enclosure can give him He does NOT tread through his own poop as Ottos know exactly where it is to avoid it. Super hero smelling powers & good constitution Prefers to poop on walks Ottos hearing and smell is very acute and important to him. He can map out a universe with it and does Ottos must haves & the household he’s looking for
● Otto needs a garden /outside space - can be small or larger
● Walking can be twice daily or once- with at least once a week off lead in enclosed park & he’ll also be fine or longer walks if you go on them. He’s very adaptable
● He’s a real bonding dog so someone who will want that devotion from him & who can return it
● He doesn’t act his age so he could be younger than 10 so someone who isn’t looking for the fast lane in life but doesn’t want to relegated to the slow one either just because of age. Young or older applicants welcome
