Meet ‘Gobi’ who is waiting to catch your eye & capture your heart.
Gobi as he is now christened (he was nameless & faceless before) tells you everything you need to know about him in that woeful little face. It’s hard to look at his dishevelled & malnourished form without feeling a deep & profound sense of pity. The strong emotions regarding how he and so many like him come to be in this state are not easily translated. The hopeful yet resigned eyes, the bravery to come forward against all the odds & all that they could and should have been, permeates your soul. A wickedness brought Gobi to his lot in life through no fault of his own. He’s just an infant boy of around 2.5 yrs old that nobody thought was worth anything. We know he is priceless. Gobi was born in a country that was likely to reject him for just being a dog. Then one day his cruel owner discarded him. This is the message our charity received asking for our help: “Hi Leesa. A week ago, this poor dog was abandoned in the countryside between two villages. He's missing his fur in some places. I hadn't seen him for three days. Yesterday, I saw him find shelter in those little houses outside the towns that have water supplies for the villages. I think he needs help. He's very thin, just skin, hair, and bones. I don't know what I can do.” “The dog is a young male of about 2 and a half years old. Very good but a little stressed. But he is social. I have not used the trap cage.” The lady who wrote to us has no space currently & as we have new arrivals and dogs we are trying to rescue also in a bad way with not enough enclosures it was challenging. There is always more every day. I offered however to support & assist with the rescue as there was barbed wire stopping entry and I was prepared to climb over. We agreed as a welfare that we would home him which also helped the rescuer to be able to find a temporary solution at a municipality shelter based on our assurances that we would ensure he leaves. We are under enormous pressure already trying to bring dogs in, rescue others and help the ones in the government pounds but we couldn’t leave Gobi to his inevitable fate. He’s made progress bless his soul within the confines of his ‘safe place’ the water house with regular feeds from the Bulgarian lady and building trust. He would have been at risk of poisoning there or being scared off once discovered. He went straight to a vet after he was rescued and all his tests show he’s in good health. Clearly he was in poor shape outwardly and we will get his coat, weight & everything else where it needs to be. He’s had a bath, groom & VIP treatment though nothing that compares to the home that we hope is waiting for him. Goby responds to people, women, no issue with men, used to cats being around, fine with other dogs & can live with 1 to multiple people. He’s adaptable & just lovely. He’s a quiet & restful soul as well as being responsive & cheerful to be around. The vet who ran his tests & groomed him described him as a ‘good dog’ & said he’s ‘friendly’ & ‘just a little timid’. What a petite and lovely lad. His vulnerability is poignant. Gobi wins you over quickly just by standing there because you feel humbled, moved & endeared by his spirit. The wretchedness they are brought to leaves you shocked & upset. He instills an empathy from his audience. The impression he leaves can only be at peace by knowing his future is mapped out. That’s what we need you our prospective adopters for. Be the person to look back into his eyes, serve him Sunday roast and do dog friendly cafe crawls. Be his first love, hand him the only bone he will have had so far and spoon in the night until the sun rises Gobi needs you. So do we
